We worked with Duracell to create the Big Battery Hunt, a programme we piloted together initially in 2017 motivating children and their families. We timed it to coincide with Easter when the ‘hunting spirit’ is already triggered around Easter eggs.

In collaboration with our National Schools Partnership, we promoted the Big Battery Hunt amongst primary schools across the UK.

The Programme

Our Big Battery Hunt explains the benefits of recycling through fun maths-based activities, and challenges  – supported by films, leader-boards and in-home branded recycling boxes.

A competition asked young people and their families to tell the stories of their recycling endeavours to inspire a nationwide change in recycling behaviour. The most inspiring stories were showcased as battery pioneers and rewarded with prizes.

The Impact

1.2m

families now participate annually.

14m

batteries recycled so far.

400%

exceeding targets by over 400%.

“Showing children that small environmental actions, when taken collectively, can make a big difference is illustrated brilliantly by Duracell’s Big Battery Hunt.”

Allison Ogden-Newton OBE, Chief Executive of environmental charity Keep Britain Tidy

See the incredible difference the whole Big Battery Hunt community is making in the live battery count.

I’ve enjoyed talking to people about the battery hunt and asking them to help. I just want to make the environment a cleaner place.

Pupil

I’m so grateful as a parent that there are these opportunities for our children to grow and be so passionate about something close to their heart!

Parent

As a school we think this initiative is fabulous. The whole school have really got behind the project with hundreds upon hundreds of batteries flowing in

Teacher

The pupils have really got behind the initiative and have enjoyed knowing that they are doing their bit to help the environment. It’s been fantastic, thank you for organising it.
