Unlocking potential: Local students give their insights on what a week looks like at We Are Futures

At We Are Futures, we pride ourselves on supporting HR & Early Talent Leaders across sectors to engage young people through activations at key decision points in their career starter journey. From essential skills development with McDonald’s to building a future talent pipeline for the energy sector with bp, we are firm believers in helping to bridge the gap between education and work.

And it’s the same in our own HQ! As part of our agency’s Opportunity workstream, we provide annual work experiences for students in our local borough to give them a taste of agency life. This year we have teamed up with Oasis Academy South Bank to provide some of their students with 3 days of work experience in our London office.

Having completed their time with us we asked them to reflect on their experience, to see what knowledge they’d gained and how they had benefitted from their time with us.

Here’s what they had to say...

A deeper understanding of the working world

"Over the past three days, my time at We Are Futures has been extremely informative and insightful into the working world and office life. I have developed new skills in digital marketing and project management, having to keep on top of tasks, organise my time efficiently, and ultimately work in a team environment. It was fun!"
— Isabella

Being inspired

“My favourite part about this experience was meeting the CEO Mark Fawcett - he was really friendly, gave me fantastic advice for starting a business and shared what his journey to becoming a CEO was like.”
— Muwahhid

 Developing essential skills

"One of the most valuable skills I developed was time management. Juggling multiple responsibilities and adhering to deadlines required me to prioritise tasks efficiently and maintain a focused approach. The We Are Futures team were so helpful, showing me some useful strategies for managing my time better, like using tools such as calendars to stay organised and on track."
— Lacary

Embracing creativity and collaboration

"My favourite part of the experience was collaborating with the team on live projects. The collaborative environment fostered by the agency was both supportive and inspiring. Everyone I met was not only knowledgeable and skilled, but also incredibly welcoming and willing to share their expertise and advice."
— Isabella

A huge thank you to Isabella, Lacary and Muwahhid for their fantastic contributions and a big shout out to our We Are Futures Opportunity team for making this possible.
